Bonneville Icons Tour

Cleveland, Ohio January 24th, 2019

“We gots to get to Cleveland for this event”……said ALMOST no one ever! However, when our friends at Triumph Cleveland called and said they had something special in the works, we listened….and boy are we glad we did! Not only did we get an close up look at several new bikes in Triumph’s 2019 lineup, but the North American unveiling of the Thruxton TFC STOLE the show (More on the Thruxty in a few).

The night started with Triumph Swag-Bags to the first 100 people through the door, and there was plenty of great food, drink, and music for the over 400 people that RSVP’d. If you wanted to get your wig or beard right, @vivobeautybar was in the house providing haircuts and beard trims. Overall, we have to give our props to the team at Triumph Cleveland for throwing a great party. Now, about that Thruxton TFC!

The folks over at Triumph have created a new “TFC” lineup of limited edition, ultra-premium motorcycles and picked Cleveland to debut the beautiful, more powerful, lighter, and even higher specification Thruxton TFC (Triumph Factory Custom). This was the first time this bike (only 750 will be made) touched North American soil, and we were humbled to be there to cover it.

Tech Nerd Alert!!

The power plant is a 1200cc liquid cooled, 8-valve, SOHC, 270 degree crank angle parallel twin. Bore/Stroke is 3.84in x 3.15in (97.6mm x 80.0mm) and Triumph with confirm this later, but they are claiming 107hp with 85ft-lbs of torque (@4,850rpm)! Dry weight of the bike is TBC, but is said to be a good 10 to 12lbs lighter than the already slim Thruxton R. Having had the opportunity to sit on the bike and owning a 2018 Thruxton R, we can say that the weight reduction is very noticeable.

The suspension is provided by Ohlin’s with a set of 43mm NIX30 upside down forks with adjustable rebound and compression damping 4.7in (120mm) travel. Out back is a fully adjustable set of twin shocks with piggy back reservoir, and billet aluminum adjusters, 4.7in (120mm) rear wheel travel. Overall, the suspension is just as functional as it is BEAUTIFUL.

Stopping power up front is provided by with twin Brembo 310mm floating discs, Brembo 4-piston radial monobloc calipers, w/ABS. Out back is a single 220mm disc, Nissan 2-piston floating caliper, w/ABS.

Other key specs are a brushed 2-into-2 Vance and Hines exhaust system, with twin brushed titanium silencers with carbon fiber end caps, LCD multi-functional instrument pack with analog speedo and tach, with TFC-specific dial faces, race spec Metzeler Racetec RR tires, premium custom finish and detailing including STUNNING carbon fiber bodywork, billet-machined top yolk with number TFC plaque (check out our pics as we think Triumph picked XXX/XXX just for us!

Overall, we think the Thruxton TFC is the new definitive sports classic. It is rare, beautiful, and special. This bike truly raises the bar and is the pinnacle of the legendary Thruxton line. As mentioned, only 750 will be sold worldwide with less than 200 making their way to the United States. Every Thruxton TFC owner will also receive a special, tailor-made “handover” pack unique to their bike featuring a numbered letter signed by Triumph’s CEO Nick Bloor, a personalized custom-build book and a beautiful Thruxton TFC bike cover. Price is rumored to be $21,500 (USD). Special thanks again to Ray Notarian at Triumph Cleveland for having us and to Triumph Motorcycles America for letting us get up close and personal with this truly amazing bike.
